MCCB for motor protection with ETU860M
The Siemens 3VA2110-7MQ36-0AC0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 100 A continuous current across the full ambient range from 40 °C up to 70 °C — no derating needed in a warm panel. Its 3-pole construction and motor protection designation mean it's sized for a three-phase motor branch circuit, with the ETU860M electronic trip unit providing adjustable overload and short-circuit protection curves. The interrupting ratings are substantial: 330 kA at 240 V, 242 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 187 kA at 500 V, and 3.8 kA at 690 V — that's enough SCCR headroom to coordinate downstream of a large transformer or generator without cascading upstream. This breaker includes phase failure detection and ground fault monitoring via summation current formation on the L-conductor, so it catches a lost phase or a ground leak before the motor cooks. The ETU860M also supports communication functions, meaning it can talk to a higher-level control system for trip data and remote reset — useful on a line where you want to log fault events without sending someone to the panel.
Panel fit and mounting
The 3VA2110-7MQ36-0AC0 measures 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall, and 86 mm deep — a standard MCCB footprint that drops into a SENTRON distribution panel or a separate enclosure. The front face carries an IP40 rating, which is typical for a panel-mounted breaker; the rest of the body is unrated, so it expects to live inside a cabinet that provides the overall environmental seal. Power loss is a maximum of 10 W, so heat buildup in a densely packed panel is manageable.
