What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2110-8JQ42-0AA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) designed for line protection. It carries a continuous rated current of 100 A and an adjustable thermal-magnetic trip unit covering 150 A to 1,200 A. The interrupting ratings climb to 440 kA at 240 V and 330 kA at 415/440 V, tapering to 52.5 kA at 690 V. That SCCR headroom means it can sit close to a large transformer or high-fault bus without needing a current-limiting fuse upstream — a real advantage when you're coordinating a distribution panel. The trip unit has a 20 A minimum setting and a 100 A full-scale value, so it's field-adjustable for a range of feeder or branch loads without swapping the breaker. Ground-fault monitoring works via summation current formation on L+N, and the communication function is built in — no separate module required for status or remote trip signalling. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, and the breaker is good for operation from -25 °C to 70 °C, with storage down to -40 °C. Power loss runs 7.7 W at full load.
Sizing and selectivity
For a panel OEM or MRO planner: this breaker is rated 100 A continuous from 40 °C all the way up to 70 °C — no derating curve to chase in a hot enclosure. The adjustable trip range (150–1,200 A) lets you set it for a 150 A feeder or crank it up for a 1,200 A main, but the continuous current rating of 100 A is the hard limit for the frame and lugs. If your load draws more than 100 A steady, you need a larger frame. The 4-pole construction means it switches all three phases plus neutral, which is standard for North American 120/208 V or 277/480 V wye systems where you need the neutral switched or monitored. The 800 V rated insulation voltage covers 690 V class installations with margin.
Physical fit
Dimensions are 86 mm deep, 140 mm wide, and 181 mm tall. That's a standard MCCB footprint for the 100 A frame size — it'll drop into a 4-pole mounting base or panel cutout without surprises. The width is the key dimension for multi-breaker lineup spacing; 140 mm is typical for this class, so it fits alongside other 3VA or comparable 100 A frames on the same DIN rail or mounting plate.
