MCCB for 160 A feeder protection
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2116-5HL32-0DL0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for a continuous current Iu of 160 A, with a rated insulation voltage Ui of 800 V. It is configured for line protection — no voltage trigger, no phase failure detection, no communication module — just a straight feeder breaker with an ETU320 electronic trip unit. Breaking capacity hits 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 79 kA at 500 V, and 4.25 kA at 690 V. That 187 kA at 240 V is the headline number — it tells you this breaker can sit upstream of a high-fault panel without needing a current-limiting fuse ahead of it.
Thermal derating and auxiliary wiring
Rated current holds at 160 A from 40 °C up to 50 °C, then derates to 154 A at 55 °C, 148 A at 60 °C, 142 A at 65 °C, and 136 A at 70 °C. For a 160 A feeder in a warm enclosure, the 50 °C ceiling is the practical limit before you lose capacity. Auxiliary contact block ships with 2 auxiliary switches, 1 trip alarm switch, and 1 electrical alarm switch (HQ type). The undervoltage release (UVR) is integrated — order code 3VA9608-0BB25 for the release itself. Max power loss is 28 W, so plan for heat dissipation in the panel.
Panel fit and mounting
Dimensions are 181 mm height, 105 mm width, 86 mm depth. Mounts on a DIN rail or can be screw-fixed to a backplate. The 105 mm width is standard for a 3-pole MCCB in this frame size — panel cutouts and busbar spacing designed for a 3VA2116-5HL32-0AK0 will accept this unit without rewiring.
