What this MCCB delivers for the panel schedule
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2116-5HL32-0JL0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 160 A continuous current across the full ambient range from 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating curve to chase. That flat thermal performance means the same frame carries the same load whether the panel sits in a climate-controlled room or a hot plant floor. Breaking capacity is the headline: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 3.7 kA at 690 V. At 240 V this breaker clears faults up to 187 kA without cascading upstream — that is a full-range SCCR for high-fault distribution panels where the transformer and bus rating demand a rugged interruptor. Designed for line protection (not motor or feeder), this variant ships with a shunt trip release (STL) and a 2+1+1 auxiliary switch configuration: two auxiliary switches, one trip alarm switch, and one electrical alarm switch. The shunt trip lets a remote signal — fire alarm, emergency-stop relay, or PLC digital output — open the breaker independently of the overload or short-circuit mechanism.
Mounting and panel fit
Dimensions: 105 mm wide, 181 mm high, 86 mm deep. The 105 mm width is a standard three-pole MCCB footprint for SENTRON 3VA frames — it occupies the same DIN-rail or screw-mount slot as other 160 A three-pole units in the series. Depth of 86 mm leaves clearance for rear-access terminals and cable bend radius inside a typical 400 mm deep enclosure. Power loss is 25.5 W maximum at rated load — a figure to factor into the enclosure thermal budget if the panel is densely packed or sealed. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C.
