Siemens SENTRON 3VA2116-5HL36-0AH0 — 160 A MCCB for Line Protection
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2116-5HL36-0AH0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection, carrying a continuous current of 160 A across the full 40 °C to 70 °C ambient range — no derating needed up to that ceiling. Its breaking capacity reaches 187 kA at 240 V AC, stepping down to 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 3.7 kA at 690 V. The insulation voltage is rated at 800 V. The 160 A rating is the headline figure, but the 187 kA at 240 V is the interrupt rating that governs high-fault applications — a utility-side transformer or a large motor branch. At 690 V the same device still clears 3.7 kA, enough for most 690 V distribution panels but not for high-fault 690 V switchgear. The flat thermal curve (160 A from 40 °C through 70 °C) simplifies panel sizing: you do not need to recalculate for a warm enclosure.
Physical Fit and Panel Integration
The 3VA2116-5HL36-0AH0 measures 105 mm wide, 181 mm high, and 86 mm deep. The 105 mm width is the critical dimension for a multi-breaker panel: it occupies three 35 mm DIN-rail modules (105 mm ÷ 35 mm/module = 3), so it fills three adjacent spaces on the rail. Depth of 86 mm means it clears standard 120 mm or 150 mm deep enclosures with room for wiring behind the breaker. The auxiliary switch configuration is 2 auxiliary switches plus 1 trip alarm switch (HQ type). That gives three independent signal contacts for status feedback — one for the alarm contact on trip, two for open/closed position. If your BOM calls for more than three auxiliary contacts, you will need an external auxiliary switch block on top.
