The Siemens 3VA2116-5HL36-0HC0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection in distribution panels. It carries a continuous current rating of 160 A across the full ambient range from 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed up to that ceiling, which simplifies panel thermal budgeting. The 3-pole design with shunt trip (STL) and two auxiliary switches (HQ) makes it suitable for remote tripping and status feedback in motor control centers or main feeder applications.
Breaking capacity — what the ratings mean for fault duty
This MCCB delivers 187 kA at 240 VAC, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 VAC, 75.6 kA at 500 VAC, and 3.7 kA at 690 VAC. The steep drop above 500 V reflects the arc extinction limits of the 160 A frame; at 690 V the part is still usable but only where fault current stays under 3.7 kA. For a 415 V distribution board fed by a typical 1 MVA transformer (prospective fault around 35–50 kA), the 121 kA rating gives comfortable margin without cascading upstream.
Panel fit and integration
Footprint is 105 mm wide × 181 mm high × 86 mm deep — a standard 3-pole MCCB envelope that drops into existing SENTRON 3VA mounting bases. The 86 mm depth (3.39 in) leaves room for rear-access busbars in shallow enclosures. Shunt trip (STL) and two auxiliary switches (HQ) are factory-integrated; no field-add kit needed. Maximum power loss is 25.5 W at rated load — account for that in enclosed panel heat rise calculations.
