What this MCCB is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2116-5HL36-0KA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 160 A continuous current at 40 °C, designed for line protection in distribution panels. Its interrupting capacity reaches 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 3.7 kA at 690 V — meaning it can safely clear faults across a wide voltage range without cascading upstream. The 800 V rated insulation voltage gives headroom for 480 V or 600 V class systems. A shunt trip release (STL) is built in for remote tripping, useful in emergency-stop or load-shedding circuits.
Physical fit and panel integration
The breaker measures 105 mm wide, 181 mm high, and 86 mm deep — a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint that mounts on a DIN rail or panel-mount base in a distribution enclosure. The 105 mm width matches the typical 3-pole slot in a SENTRON panelboard.
Thermal performance and derating
The 160 A continuous rating holds flat from 40 °C through 70 °C ambient — no derating needed up to that ceiling. Storage range spans -40 °C to 80 °C. Maximum power loss is 25.5 W at rated load.
