MCCB for line protection with ETU320 and shunt trip
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2116-5HL46-0HC0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 160 A continuous current, fitted with an ETU320 electronic trip unit for line protection. It carries a shunt trip (STL) release and two auxiliary switches (HQ version) for remote status feedback. Breaking capacity runs 187 kA at 240 V AC, 121 kA at 415 V AC, and 3.75 kA at 690 V AC — the 690 V figure is the one to watch if you're protecting a 690 V motor feeder; at that voltage the interrupting rating drops sharply, so verify the available fault current at the panel.
Thermal derating and panel fit
The 160 A rating holds up to 50 °C ambient; above that it derates linearly to 136 A at 70 °C. That matters if this breaker sits in a crowded enclosure near drives or transformers — at 65 °C you're down to 142 A, so size the load accordingly. Dimensions are 140 mm wide, 181 mm tall, 107 mm deep — it's a standard SENTRON 3VA frame size, so it slots into existing panel layouts without re-drilling the mounting plate. Front IP40 keeps out tools and fingers but not washdown; keep it behind a sealed door in wet environments.
