What this MCCB is and what it handles
The SENTRON 3VA2116-5HM46-0AA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection, carrying a continuous current of 160 A across the full operating range from 40 °C to 70 °C with no derating required — that's the same 160 A at 70 °C as at 40 °C, which simplifies panel design in warm enclosures. Interrupting capacity is 187 kA at 240 V, dropping to 121 kA at 415 V or 440 V, 76 kA at 500 V, and 3.8 kA at 690 V — so for most 400 V-class industrial feeds it clears 121 kA fault current without cascading upstream.
Trip unit and protection features
The overcurrent release is an ETU330 electronic trip unit with adjustable long-time pickup (I_g) from 0.3 s to 160 A and short-time pickup (I_i) up to 1 600 A. Ground-fault monitoring uses summation current formation on L+N — adjustable OFF, 50%, or 100% of the N-conductor protection setting. No communication function onboard — this is a standalone protection device, not a smart breaker. Optional motor drive available as a field-fit accessory.
Mounting and integration
Dimensions are 140 mm wide, 181 mm tall, 86 mm deep — fits standard MCCB panel cutouts and busbar systems. Front face carries IP40 protection, suitable for enclosed panel mounting where no water ingress is expected. Storage range spans -40 °C to 80 °C; operating range -25 °C to 70 °C. Maximum power loss is 25.5 W — factor that into enclosure thermal calculations.
