160 A MCCB for line protection — interrupting capacity across voltage levels
The Siemens 3VA2116-5HN32-0AB0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 160 A continuous at 40 °C through 70 °C — no derating needed across that span, which simplifies panel sizing in warm enclosures. Three poles, line protection design, no ground-fault monitoring, no undervoltage release, no communication module. It carries two built-in auxiliary switches (HP type) for status feedback to a PLC or indicator lamp. Interrupting capacity is the headline: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 3.7 kA at 690 V. That 187 kA at 240 V covers high-fault service-entrance or transformer-secondary applications where available fault current is severe. The 121 kA at 415 V handles most industrial distribution panels in 400 V class systems. At 690 V the 3.7 kA figure is low — this breaker is not a primary choice for 690 V circuits unless the fault current is well below that threshold.
Panel fit — dimensions and mounting
Dimensions: 105 mm wide, 181 mm high, 86 mm deep. That 105 mm width is roughly 4.13 inches — standard for a 3-pole MCCB in this frame size. Mounts on a DIN rail or direct-panel via the screw terminals. The 86 mm depth (3.39 in) leaves clearance behind a standard 200 mm deep enclosure door. Operating temperature range -25 °C to 70 °C; storage from -40 °C to 80 °C. Rated insulation voltage 800 V.
