160 A MCCB with ETU350 — what the ratings mean for your panel
The Siemens 3VA2116-5HN32-0AE0 is a 3-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for 160 A continuous current (Iu) with an ETU350 electronic trip unit. That 160 A holds across the 40 °C to 50 °C band without derating; at 55 °C it steps to 154 A, and at 70 °C it's still good for 136 A — so in a warm enclosure you lose less than 15 % of capacity. Interrupting capacity is 187 kA at 240 V AC, 121 kA at 415/440 V, 79 kA at 500 V, and 4.25 kA at 690 V. That 187 kA figure at 240 V covers high-fault transformer secondaries and large motor-control-center buswork; the 121 kA at 415 V is what you'd coordinate with downstream feeders in a 400 V industrial distribution board. The ETU350 trip unit is a microprocessor-based electronic release with LI (long-time and instantaneous) protection. No voltage trigger, no undervoltage release, no ground-fault monitoring — this is a straight line-protection breaker for feeder or main-switch duty where you don't need add-on shunt or UVR functions.
Mounting and integration — panel fit
Dimensions are 181 mm high, 105 mm wide, 86 mm deep. The 105 mm width is the standard 3-pole MCCB footprint for this SENTRON frame size — it bolts directly onto a mounting plate or into a fixed/withdrawable chassis in a distribution panel. No DIN-rail clip; this is a bolted connection for high-fault applications. Front-face protection is IP40, meaning it's protected against tools and wires >1 mm but not against water ingress — keep it inside a closed panel, not in a washdown area. Four auxiliary switches (HQ type) are built in — two NO + two NC or configurable depending on the wiring. That gives you status feedback for the SCADA or PLC without adding a separate aux block.
Lifecycle and sourcing — current production, quoted to order
The basic switch (the breaker mechanism without the trip unit) is order code 3VA2116-5HN32-0AA0, which is the underlying frame if you ever need to replace just the switch and keep the ETU350.
