160 A MCCB with ETU560 — the so-what for your panel
The Siemens 3VA2116-5JQ32-0CA0 is a 3-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for 160 A continuous current, built around the ETU560 electronic trip unit. That trip unit gives you adjustable long-time, short-time, instantaneous, and ground-fault protection curves — meaning you can shape the trip response to match your load, not the other way around. At 240 V it interrupts 187 kA; at 415 V and 440 V it holds 121 kA, which covers most industrial distribution panels without needing a current-limiting upstream device. The 105 mm width and 181 mm height are standard 3VA frame dimensions, so it lands on the same mounting footprint as other 3VA breakers in this frame class.
Temperature derating — don't guess, use the curve
This breaker carries its full 160 A rating from 40 °C through 50 °C. Above that it derates linearly: 154 A at 55 °C, 148 A at 60 °C, 142 A at 65 °C, 136 A at 70 °C. If your panel ambient runs hot — say near a VFD bank or a transformer compartment — size the downstream load against the derated figure for your actual enclosure temperature, not the nameplate. The maximum power loss is 28 W, which is modest for a 160 A frame but still needs to be factored into the enclosure thermal budget.
What's built into this variant
The 3VA2116-5JQ32-0CA0 comes with an integrated undervoltage release (UVR) as the auxiliary release design. It has a communication function on board — useful for remote monitoring or integration into a higher-level energy management system. There is no auxiliary contact block fitted (the auxiliary contact version is listed as "Without"), and no voltage trigger or phase failure detection. The ground-fault monitoring uses summation current formation on the L-conductor. The supplied basic switch is order code 3VA2116-5JQ32-0AA0; the integrated auxiliary trip is 3VA9608-0BB24.
