What this breaker delivers in the panel
The Siemens 3VA2116-5KP32-0AA0 is a 3-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for 160 A continuous current across the full ambient range from 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed up to that ceiling. Breaking capacity hits 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, then drops to 75.6 kA at 500 V and 3.7 kA at 690 V. That kind of headroom means you can place this breaker close to the transformer secondary or the main bus without worrying about cascading faults upstream. The ETU850 electronic overcurrent release gives you adjustable long-time, short-time, instantaneous, and ground-fault protection curves — line protection design, not motor-only. Communication function is built in, so it talks to the plant SCADA or energy management system without an add-on module. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, and the front face carries IP40 protection — fine for a clean indoor panel, but keep it out of washdown zones.
Panel integration notes
Mounts on DIN rail or direct screw-mount via the base. The 105 mm width (4.13 in) fits standard MCCB slots in most switchboard form factors. Front terminals accept busbar or cable lugs up to the rated cross-section; check the lug size against your cable ampacity for the 160 A continuous rating. IP40 on the front face means it's protected against tools and solid objects larger than 1 mm, but not against water ingress — keep it inside the enclosure, not on the panel door. Storage range spans -40 °C to 80 °C, so it can sit in an unheated warehouse without issue.
