SENTRON 3VA2 MCCB — 160 A line protection, 4-pole, high-interrupt
The Siemens 3VA2116-6HM46-0AA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) designed for line protection in distribution panels. It carries a continuous rated current of 160 A across the full ambient range from 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed up to that ceiling — and is built on a 4-pole frame. Breaking capacity is the headline here: 242 kA at 240 V, 187 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 121 kA at 500 V, and 3.7 kA at 690 V. That 242 kA at 240 V means it can safely interrupt very high fault currents typical in large industrial service entrances or transformer secondaries — the kind of fault that would weld a smaller frame shut. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, so the breaker is electrically rated for 690 V systems with margin. The 4-pole construction handles three-phase plus neutral, common in North American and European distribution where the neutral must be switched or protected.
Panel fit and integration
Dimensions: 86 mm deep, 140 mm wide, 181 mm tall. The 140 mm width is standard for a 4-pole MCCB in this frame class — it occupies the same footprint as other SENTRON 3VA2 4-pole units, so a panel laid out for a 3VA2 160 A frame will accept this without re-drilling the mounting plate or re-routing bus bars. Power loss is 25.5 W maximum — relevant for thermal management inside a sealed enclosure. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage from -40 °C to 80 °C.
