What the ratings mean for fit
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2116-6JQ32-0AA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 160 A continuous current across the full ambient range from 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed up to that ceiling. The interrupting capacity tells the real story: 242 kA at 240 V, 187 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 121 kA at 500 V, then drops to 3.7 kA at 690 V. That 242 kA at 240 V means it can clear a fault on a large step-down transformer secondary or a high-capacity bus without cascading upstream — useful in industrial switchboards where the available fault current is high. The 3.7 kA at 690 V is a different regime; at that voltage the breaker is still rated for line protection but the fault-clearing capability is much lower, so verify the available fault current on 690 V systems before specifying.
Integration and mounting
Footprint is 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall, 86 mm deep — standard MCCB panel-mount dimensions. The 105 mm width fits a three-pole MCCB cutout in most distribution boards; check the gland plate clearance for the 86 mm depth, especially in shallow enclosures. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, which covers 480 V and 600 V class systems with margin. Communication function is built in, so it can report status or trip events to a PLC or BMS without an add-on module.
