What this MCCB delivers on the line side
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2116-8JP42-0AA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 160 A continuous current, built around the ETU550 electronic trip unit. That trip unit gives you adjustable overload and short-circuit protection curves, plus communication capability — so it can report status and trip events back to a PLC or BMS over the integrated comms interface. Line protection design means it's optimized for feeder and distribution duty, not motor-starting cycles. Breaking capacity is substantial: 440 kA at 240 V, 330 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 220 kA at 500 V, and 52.5 kA at 690 V. That covers most industrial distribution panels where fault current runs high — think 480 V switchgear in a plant with a multi-MVA transformer feeding the bus. The 160 A rating holds flat across the full ambient range from 40 °C to 70 °C, so no derating headache in a warm enclosure.
Panel fit and mounting
Dimensions are 86 mm deep, 140 mm wide, 181 mm tall — a standard SENTRON 3VA frame size that fits the usual DIN-rail or screw-mount pattern in a distribution board. IP40 on the front means it's protected against tools and wires >1 mm, but the enclosure itself needs to handle the rest of the IP rating. Four poles in one compact block saves rail space versus ganging single-pole units. Maximum power loss is 19.7 W at rated load — worth noting for thermal management in a sealed or high-density panel. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage from -40 °C to 80 °C. The insulation voltage rating is 800 V, so it's comfortable on 690 V systems with margin.
