What this MCCB delivers
The Siemens 3VA2116-8JQ42-0AA0 is a 4-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for 160 A continuous current across the full operating temperature range of -40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed up to 70 °C. It carries a breaking capacity of 440 kA at 240 V AC, stepping down to 330 kA at 415/440 V, 220 kA at 500 V, and 53 kA at 690 V. The ETU560 electronic trip unit provides adjustable long-time delay (tr) from 0.5 to 20 seconds and configurable N-conductor protection (OFF or 20%–100%). This is a line-protection version — meaning it is designed to protect cables and busbars against overload and short-circuit, not motor or generator circuits. The 800 V rated insulation voltage (Ui) suits it for 690 V distribution panels where fault currents can reach the listed extremes. The breaker includes a communication function for integration into energy management or remote monitoring systems, and the ground-fault monitoring uses summation current formation on L+N conductors.
Panel fit and mounting
Dimensions are 181 mm high, 140 mm wide, 86 mm deep — a standard 4-pole MCCB footprint for DIN-rail or screw-mount panels. The IP40 front protection means it is suitable for enclosed distribution boards where the front face is behind a door or cover; no washdown rating here. Maximum power loss is 19.7 W — factor that into thermal calculations inside a sealed enclosure, especially when grouping multiple breakers.
