MCCB with ETU850 — what the ratings mean for your panel
The Siemens 3VA2125-5KP32-0AA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 25 A continuous current, with an ETU850 electronic trip unit. The 3-pole design and 800 V rated insulation voltage suit it for line protection in distribution panels feeding motor control centers or general loads. The ETU850 provides adjustable overload and short-circuit protection curves, plus communication capability for integration into a monitored power system. Breaking capacity is the headline spec for an MCCB: this unit interrupts 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 3.7 kA at 690 V. Those numbers tell you it handles high fault currents at common low-voltage distribution levels — the 187 kA at 240 V covers most North American panelboard fault ratings, while the 121 kA at 415 V suits European 400 V systems. At 690 V the capacity drops sharply, so it is not the right choice for 690 V drives or mining gear unless the available fault current is known to be under 3.7 kA. Power loss is 0.6 W maximum — negligible for thermal budgeting in a crowded enclosure. The operating temperature range of -25 °C to 70 °C covers most indoor panel environments, and the IP40 front protection means it is dust-protected on the face but not sealed against hose-down; mount it inside a rated enclosure for wet or washdown areas.
Panel fit and integration
Dimensions: 86 mm deep, 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall. The 105 mm width is standard for a 3-pole MCCB in the SENTRON 3VA2 frame; it mounts on a DIN rail or can be screw-fixed to a backplate. Verify the panel depth — 86 mm plus wiring space and any auxiliary modules needs clearance behind the door.
