What this MCCB delivers in the panel
The Siemens 3VA2140-5JP42-0AA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for line protection in distribution panels. It carries a continuous current of 40 A flat across the full operating temperature range from 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed as the panel warms up, which simplifies coordination studies for a 4-pole feeder. The interrupting capacity tells the real story: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 3.7 kA at 690 V. That 187 kA at 240 V is the headline number for high-fault industrial services — it means this breaker can safely clear a bolted fault on a large step-down transformer secondary without needing a current-limiting fuse upstream. The electronic trip unit is an ETU550, which provides adjustable long-time, short-time, instantaneous, and ground-fault protection curves. No undervoltage release or voltage-trip accessory is fitted as standard; the communication function is present, so it can report status and trip events over a bus system if the panel is wired for it.
Mounting and integration notes
Dimensions are 181 mm high, 140 mm wide, 86 mm deep — a standard 4-pole MCCB footprint that fits most DIN-rail or panel-mount enclosures. Front protection is IP40, so it is suitable for a clean indoor panel but not for washdown or outdoor exposure without an additional enclosure. The motor-drive accessory option (product extension optional) allows remote reset or operation via a motor operator, useful for panels in hard-to-reach locations.
