The Siemens 3VA2140-5KQ32-0AA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) designed for line protection in distribution panels. It carries a 40 A continuous current rating across the full ambient temperature range from 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed up to that ceiling. The adjustable thermal-magnetic trip unit covers 60 A to 480 A, so it can be set to protect a specific downstream load or feeder without swapping the breaker body.
Interrupting capacity and selectivity
Breaking capacity is 187 kA at 240 V AC, dropping to 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, then 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 3.7 kA at 690 V. That 187 kA at 240 V is well into high-fault territory — suitable for transformer-secondaries or large bus risers where available fault current is high. The 121 kA at 415 V covers most European industrial mains without needing a current-limiting upstream device.
Communication and monitoring
This MCCB includes a communication function and an other measurement function — meaning it can report status and measured values over a bus, not just trip. The ground-fault monitoring version uses summation current formation on the L-conductor, which detects leakage without a separate toroid on each phase. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, and maximum power loss is 1.6 W.
Physical fit
Dimensions are 86 mm depth, 105 mm width, 181 mm height — a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint that fits most Siemens SENTRON panelboards and switchgear cubicles. No special adapter plate needed for a typical 3-pole cutout.
