Motor protection MCCB with UVR — what the ratings mean for fit
The Siemens 3VA2140-5MN32-0CA0 is a 3-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) in the motor protection version, carrying a rated continuous current (Iu) of 40 A across the full 40 °C to 50 °C ambient range — no derate needed until you hit 55 °C, where it drops to 38.4 A. That 40 A continuous rating means it's sized for motor full-load currents up to that level, not for feeder or distribution duty where the thermal curve would be set differently. The interrupting capacity tells the real story: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 17 kA at 690 V. Those are high-interrupt ratings — this breaker clears faults without cascading upstream, which matters when you're coordinating a panel with high available fault current. The ETU350M electronic trip unit handles the protection curve, and phase failure detection is built in.
