MCCB for high-fault panels
The Siemens 3VA2140-6HK46-0AA0 is a SENTRON 3VA2 molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 40 A continuous current across the full ambient range from 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed up to the enclosure's thermal limit. Its ETU340 electronic trip unit gives you adjustable long-time, short-time, instantaneous, and ground-fault protection curves, making it a fit for feeder or main breaker duty in switchboards with high available fault current. Breaking capacity is the headline here: 242 kA at 240 V, 187 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 121 kA at 500 V, and 42 kA at 690 V. That SCCR headroom means this 4-pole breaker can be specified into panels fed from large transformers or high-capacity gensets without worrying about cascading failure upstream.
Physical fit and panel integration
Dimensions are 181 mm high, 140 mm wide, 86 mm deep — a standard 4-pole MCCB footprint for DIN-rail or screw-mount panel integration. The IP40 front protection means it's suitable for enclosed switchboards where the door provides the environmental seal. At 1.6 W maximum power loss, heat dissipation inside the enclosure is manageable even in densely packed MCC sections.
Protection and configuration
Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, and the N-conductor protection is adjustable OFF or 100%. The ETU340 release is a microprocessor-based trip unit with LSI protection curves (long-time, short-time, instantaneous) plus ground-fault capability — though this specific variant ships without ground-fault monitoring. Communication function is not fitted, so this is a standalone breaker for hardwired protection schemes.
