The Siemens 3VA2140-8HK36-0AA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) configured for line protection, with a continuous current rating Iu of 40 A across the full ambient range from 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed up to that ceiling. It carries an ETU340 electronic overcurrent release, which gives you adjustable thermal-magnetic curves and a more precise trip than a fixed thermal unit. The 3-pole design fits standard panel footprints at 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall, and 86 mm deep.
Breaking capacity and selectivity
The interrupting rating is the headline here: 440 kA at 240 V AC, 330 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 220 kA at 500 V, and still 52.5 kA at 690 V. That puts it in the high-fault-current class — suitable for main or tie breakers in large distribution boards where the prospective short-circuit current is well above what a standard 25 kA or 36 kA MCCB can handle. The 52.5 kA at 690 V also means it can serve 690 V industrial loads without needing a current-limiting upstream device.
Integration and environment
The front face carries IP40 protection — fine for a closed panel, but not rated for washdown or outdoor exposure. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C, storage from -40 °C to 80 °C. The 1.2 W maximum power loss is low enough that ventilation spacing is standard; no forced cooling needed in a typical enclosure. An optional motor drive is available as a field-addable accessory.
