Siemens 3VA2140-8HL32-0AA0 — SENTRON MCCB, 40 A, 3-Pole, ETU320
The Siemens 3VA2140-8HL32-0AA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 40 A continuous current on a 3-pole configuration, fitted with an ETU320 electronic trip unit. It's designed for line protection — the primary role is guarding feeder circuits and downstream distribution against overloads and short circuits in a panel. The ETU320 trip unit gives you adjustable thermal-magnetic or electronic protection curves, which is the deciding factor for coordination studies — you can dial in the long-time pickup and short-time delay to achieve selectivity with downstream breakers. That 40 A rating holds flat across the full -25 °C to 70 °C operating range, so no derating headache in a warm enclosure. Interrupting capacity is substantial: 440 kA at 240 V, 330 kA at 415 V, and still 52.5 kA at 690 V. That high fault current handling means this MCCB can be installed close to the transformer secondary where available fault current is highest, without needing a current-limiting fuse upstream. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, so it's suitable for 480/277 V and 600 V systems with margin. The IP40 front protection keeps dust out of the breaker mechanism in a typical enclosed panel — not rated for washdown, so keep it behind the panel door.
Integration & Mounting
Dimensions are 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall, 86 mm deep — fits standard Siemens 3VA2 panel cutouts and busbar connections. The 3-pole form factor is a direct swap for existing SENTRON 3VA2 breakers in the same frame size. No undervoltage release, no voltage trigger, no communication module on this variant — it's a straight line-protection breaker. Power loss is only 1.2 W maximum, so thermal buildup in a dense panel is negligible. Storage range from -40 °C to 80 °C covers most warehouse and shipping conditions.
