It's designed for line protection — the primary role is guarding feeder circuits and downstream distribution against overloads and short circuits in a panel. The ETU320 trip unit gives you adjustable thermal-magnetic or electronic protection curves, which is the deciding factor for coordination studies — you can dial in the long-time pickup and short-time delay to achieve selectivity with downstream breakers. That 40 A rating holds flat across the full -25 °C to 70 °C operating range, so no derating headache in a warm enclosure.
