SENTRON 3VA2 MCCB — 40 A, ETU550, Line Protection
The Siemens 3VA2140-8JP32-0AA0 is a SENTRON 3VA2 molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) in the line protection version, carrying a rated continuous current Iu of 40 A across the full operating temperature range from -40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed up to 70 °C ambient. Three poles, fitted with the ETU550 electronic trip unit. The ETU550 is a microprocessor-based overcurrent release with adjustable time-current curves — tr adjustable from 0.5 s to 25 s, tsd up to 0.5 s — giving you selective coordination flexibility downstream of a transformer or upstream of distribution panels. Breaking capacity is voltage-dependent: 440 kA at 240 V, 330 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 220 kA at 500 V, and 53 kA at 690 V. That puts it in the high-interrupting category for this frame size — suitable for fault currents near the transformer secondary in industrial switchgear.
Panel Fit and Integration
Dimensions: 105 mm wide, 181 mm high, 86 mm deep. The 3VA2 frame uses a screw-fixed mounting pattern — not DIN rail — so plan for a drilled backplate or mounting plate in the enclosure. IP40 on the front face means it's protected against solid objects >1 mm but not against water ingress; keep it inside a rated enclosure for washdown areas. Rated insulation voltage Ui is 800 V, which covers 480 V and 600 V class systems with margin. Maximum power loss is 1.2 W — negligible for thermal budgeting inside a panel, but worth noting if you're packing multiple breakers in a sealed enclosure.
