What this MCCB is and where it fits
The Siemens 3VA2163-5HL36-0DC0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) built for line protection on 3-phase systems. It's rated for a continuous current of 63 A, with an ETU320 electronic trip unit that gives you adjustable overload and short-circuit protection curves — useful when you need to coordinate downstream feeders without swapping trip packs. The 3-pole body carries an 800 V rated insulation voltage, so it's comfortable on 400/480 V panels.
Breaking capacity — what the numbers mean for your fault duty
This MCCB delivers 187 kA at 240 V AC, which drops to 121 kA at both 415 V and 440 V, then 79 kA at 500 V, and 4.25 kA at 690 V. The 187 kA figure at 240 V is high enough for most transformer secondary or bus-riser applications where fault currents can spike. At 415 V, the 121 kA rating still covers heavy industrial service-entrance duty. The steep drop to 4.25 kA at 690 V means this isn't the breaker for a 690 V high-fault panel — you'd need a higher-rated frame for that leg.
Thermal derating and operating limits
Rated at 63 A continuous up to 50 °C ambient — no derating needed in a ventilated enclosure at normal shop-floor temps. At 55 °C it steps to 60.6 A, at 60 °C to 58.3 A, at 65 °C to 55.9 A, and at 70 °C to 53.6 A. The operating range is -25 °C to 70 °C, with storage from -40 °C to 80 °C. If your panel sits near a furnace line or in a hot attic, factor that derate into your load schedule.
Integrated auxiliaries and releases
Comes with an undervoltage release (UVR) already fitted — part number 3VA9608-0BB25 — and 2 auxiliary switches (HQ type). The UVR means the breaker trips if control voltage drops below a threshold, which is standard for safety circuits or emergency-stop chains where you want the main breaker to drop on loss of control power. No ground-fault monitoring or communication module on this variant, so if you need GF or remote status, you're adding those externally.
Panel fit — dimensions and mounting
The breaker measures 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall, and 86 mm deep. That's a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint for the SENTRON 3VA2 frame — fits most DIN-rail or screw-mount panel layouts without surprises. The 105 mm width is the critical dimension for multi-breaker groups; check your bus-bar spacing and gland-plate cutouts against that number before committing the panel layout.
