What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2163-5KP32-0HA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 63 A continuous current across the full operating temperature range from 40 °C to 70 °C, with no derating needed up to that limit. It is designed for line protection — meaning it sits at the incoming feeder or distribution point, not downstream on a motor circuit. The breaker carries a shunt trip release (STL) for remote tripping and includes communication and measurement functions, so it can report status and power data back to a control system.
Breaking capacity — what the ratings mean for panel coordination
The interrupting rating is 187 kA at 240 V AC, dropping to 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, then 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 3.7 kA at 690 V. The 187 kA figure at 240 V is the headline — it tells you this breaker can safely clear a fault up to that level without rupturing or cascading upstream, which is critical for high-fault panels near a transformer. The 121 kA at 415 V still covers most industrial service-entrance applications. At 690 V the rating falls to 3.7 kA, so if your system runs at that voltage, verify the available fault current is below that threshold.
Adjustable current setting and panel fit
The thermal-magnetic trip can be set between 95 A minimum and 756 A maximum. Dimensions are 86 mm deep, 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall.
