MCCB for line protection — 63 A continuous, 187 kA interrupting at 240 V
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2163-5KP32-0JA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 63 A continuous current across the full ambient range from 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed up to that ceiling. Its interrupting capacity hits 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 3.7 kA at 690 V, so it handles high-fault utility feeds or transformer secondaries without cascading upstream. Designed for line protection, it carries a shunt trip (STL) auxiliary release and a communication function for remote monitoring or trip indication. The 86 mm depth, 105 mm width, and 181 mm height fit standard MCCB panel footprints.
Breaking capacity across voltage — selectivity planning
At 240 V the 187 kA rating covers most North American secondary-side faults. Dropping to 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V still clears heavy industrial faults. The sharp fall to 3.7 kA at 690 V means this breaker is not the right choice for 690 V main feeders unless the prospective fault current is known to be below that threshold — coordinate upstream or step to a higher-rated frame.
Panel integration — 3-pole, 63 A, shunt trip
Mounts in a standard MCCB panel cutout. The 105 mm width and 86 mm depth leave room for side-by-side pole fill and busbar routing. The shunt trip (STL) allows remote tripping from an E-stop or safety PLC; no undervoltage release is fitted. Communication function enables integration with a BMS or SCADA for trip logging. No ground-fault monitoring module is included — add externally if GF protection is required.
