Motor protection MCCB with full-rate thermal performance
The Siemens 3VA2163-5MN32-0BA0 is a 3-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) designed specifically for motor protection, carrying a continuous current rating of 63 A that holds flat across the full 40 °C to 70 °C operating range — no derating needed as the panel warms up, which is unusual for a compact-frame MCCB. Interrupting capacity reaches 187 kA at 240 V, dropping to 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 3.7 kA at 690 V — the 690 V figure is a hard limit for this frame, so verify available fault current on 690 V systems before specifying. Built-in phase failure detection and an undervoltage release (UVR) are standard on this variant, so it drops the load on loss of any phase or a sag below the UVR threshold — no separate monitoring relay needed for basic motor protection.
Panel fit and integration
Dimensions are 105 mm wide, 181 mm high, 86 mm deep — a standard SENTRON frame footprint that mounts on a DIN rail or panel-mount baseplate. Maximum power loss is 6.5 W at rated load, so ventilation spacing in a sealed enclosure follows the same rules as any 63 A MCCB — no special thermal management beyond the manufacturer's clearance recommendations.
