63 A motor-protection MCCB with 187 kA interrupting capacity at 240 V
The Siemens 3VA2163-5MN32-0CH0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) designed specifically for motor protection. It carries a continuous current rating of 63 A across the full ambient temperature range from 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed up to that ceiling. The interrupting capacity reaches 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415/440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 3.7 kA at 690 V, giving it headroom for high-fault industrial feeders. Three poles, with an integrated undervoltage release (UVR) and phase failure detection built in. The auxiliary switch configuration includes two auxiliary switches plus one trip alarm switch (HQ). The basic switch core is order code 3VA21635MN320AA0.
Mounting and integration
Panel footprint: 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall, 86 mm deep. Fits standard MCCB mounting cutouts in motor control centers and distribution boards. The undervoltage release (UVR) is factory-installed; no field retrofit required for undervoltage protection.
Motor protection and selectivity
Rated for motor protection duty — the design includes phase failure detection and a trip indicator. The 63 A frame supports typical motor loads up to about 30 kW (400 V) depending on starting characteristics and coordination with upstream devices. The short-time withstand and selectivity data (minimum trip time 4 s, maximum 17 s) allow coordination with downstream contactors and overload relays.
