63 A motor protection MCCB — no thermal derating across the full operating range
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2163-5MN36-0AE0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 63 A continuous current with a motor protection design. What sets this part apart is the flat derating curve: it holds 63 A from 40 °C all the way up to 70 °C ambient (–). That means no capacity haircut when the panel runs hot — a common pain point with breakers that start derating at 40 °C. Phase failure detection is built in, so a lost phase on the line side trips the breaker instead of cooking the motor. Interrupting capacity is 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 3.7 kA at 690 V (–). The 187 kA figure at 240 V covers high-fault utility feeds and transformer secondaries; the 121 kA at 415 V handles most European industrial distribution. At 690 V the 3.7 kA rating limits application to low-fault systems or downstream positions. The basic switch supplied inside is 3VA21635MN360AA0, and the auxiliary switch block is configured for 4 HQ auxiliary switches. No undervoltage release, no ground-fault monitoring, no communication function — this is a straight motor-protection breaker with phase-loss detection and a generous aux contact count for status feedback back to the PLC.
Panel fit — 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall, 86 mm deep
Footprint is 105 mm wide by 181 mm tall by 86 mm deep. That 105 mm width is a standard 3-pole MCCB frame size — it drops into the same DIN-rail or panel-mount cutout as other SENTRON 3VA2 breakers of this frame. The 86 mm depth leaves clearance for rear-connected busbars or a gland plate. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C, storage from -40 °C to 80 °C.
