MCCB for motor protection — 63 A, 187 kA SCCR
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2163-5MN36-0DH0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 63 A continuous current (Iu) at up to 50 °C ambient, with an interrupting capacity of 187 kA at 240 V AC. This is the motor protection version, fitted with an ETU350M electronic overcurrent release and an undervoltage release (UVR). The 187 kA SCCR at 240 V means it can safely clear a bolted fault at that level without upstream cascading — critical for high-fault panels close to the transformer. At 415 V and 440 V the rating holds at 121 kA; at 690 V it still manages 17 kA.
Thermal derating and panel integration
The breaker holds full 63 A rating through 50 °C ambient. Above that, derate linearly: 60.48 A at 55 °C, 59.22 A at 60 °C, 57.96 A at 65 °C, and 56.7 A at 70 °C. Maximum power loss is 75 W — account for that in enclosure thermal calculations. Dimensions are 105 mm wide × 181 mm high × 86 mm deep, fitting standard SENTRON 3VA panel cutouts. Operating range is -25 °C to +70 °C; storage range -40 °C to +80 °C.
Integrated auxiliary and alarm contacts
The breaker ships with 2 auxiliary switches plus 1 trip alarm switch (HQ configuration), and a built-in undervoltage release. Phase failure detection is standard. The basic switch is order code 3VA2163-5MN36-0AA0; the integrated auxiliary trip is 3VA9608-0BB25. Latching endurance is rated at 20 000 operations.
