What this MCCB is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2163-5MN36-0JC0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 63 A continuous current across the full ambient range from 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed up to that ceiling. It is designed specifically for motor protection, with integral phase failure detection and a shunt trip release (STL) for remote emergency tripping. Two auxiliary switches (HQ) are built in for status feedback to a PLC or indication panel.
Breaking capacity — what the numbers mean for coordination
The interrupting ratings are given at several voltages. At 415 V the breaker clears 121 kA symmetrical; at 240 V it handles 187 kA. Those figures drop to 75.6 kA at 500 V and to 3.7 kA at 690 V. For a 415 V motor feeder, the 121 kA rating means this MCCB can interrupt a fault up to that level without upstream fuses needing to clear — a key number for selectivity studies and panel SCCR compliance. The short-time delay band (4 s minimum, 17 s maximum) allows coordination with downstream motor starters during start-up transients.
Integration and panel fit
Dimensions are 181 mm high, 105 mm wide, and 86 mm deep. The 3-pole footprint is standard for a 63 A frame MCCB; it mounts on a DIN rail or directly to a panel backplate via the fixed lugs. The shunt trip release allows a remote pushbutton or safety relay to open the breaker without a manual handle pull. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to +70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to +80 °C. Maximum power loss is 4 W.
