What this MCCB carries — and what it doesn't
The Siemens 3VA2163-6HL32-0KC0 is a 3-pole SENTRON molded case circuit breaker rated for 63 A continuous current (Iu) with an ETU320 electronic trip unit. Its interrupting capacity hits 242 kA at 240 V, 187 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 121 kA at 500 V, and 5 kA at 690 V — so at typical 400 V distribution voltages it clears 187 kA faults without cascading upstream. That's a high-interrupting frame sized for main or tie-breaker positions where available fault current is substantial. Line protection version — no ground-fault monitoring, no undervoltage release, no communication module, no phase-failure detection. The auxiliary release is a shunt trip (STL) only, and the auxiliary contact package is two HQ-form switches. If your BOM needs undervoltage release or ground-fault alarm, this variant won't carry it without adding external modules.
Thermal derating — where the 63 A holds and where it tapers
Rated continuous current of 63 A is flat from 40 °C through 50 °C ambient. At 55 °C it derates to 60.6375 A, at 60 °C to 58.275 A, at 65 °C to 55.9125 A, and at 70 °C to 53.55 A. In a sealed panel with internal temperature rise, expect to size the breaker for the actual ambient at the mounting location — the 63 A nameplate holds only up to 50 °C.
Physical fit — panel footprint
Dimensions: 105 mm wide, 181 mm high, 86 mm deep. Standard 3-pole MCCB footprint for the SENTRON 3VA2 frame. Mounts on a DIN rail or direct panel-mount via the integrated lugs. The 86 mm depth includes the shunt trip housing — verify clearance to the gland plate or door if the panel is shallow.
