63 A MCCB with ETU350 — line protection for high-fault panels
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2163-7HN46-0AA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker rated 63 A continuous current, built around the ETU350 electronic overcurrent release. It is designed for line protection — meaning it serves as the main incoming breaker or feeder protection in a distribution panel, not for motor or generator protection. The 63 A rating holds flat across the entire 40 °C to 70 °C ambient range, so no derating is needed in a warm enclosure. Breaking capacity is the headline number here: 330 kA at 240 V, 242 kA at 415/440 V, 187 kA at 500 V, and 3.7 kA at 690 V. That 330 kA at 240 V is exceptional — it handles utility-grade fault currents without cascading coordination upstream. At 690 V the capacity drops sharply to 3.7 kA, which is typical for a 63 A frame at that voltage; this breaker is not the right choice for a 690 V main if fault current exceeds 3.7 kA.
Panel fit and integration
Dimensions are 140 mm wide, 181 mm high, 86 mm deep — a standard 4-pole MCCB footprint for the SENTRON 3VA platform. It mounts via the rear panel cutout or optional DIN-rail adapter; the 86 mm depth leaves clearance behind a 200 mm deep enclosure door. IP40 on the front means it is protected against tools and wires >1 mm, but not against water ingress — keep it inside a rated enclosure. Power loss is 4 W maximum at rated current. That is low enough that thermal rise in a multi-breaker lineup is manageable, but in a densely packed panel with 10+ breakers, the cumulative heat still needs ventilation planning.
