Integrator's first look
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2163-7MN32-0AB0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for a full 63 A continuously from 40 °C through 70 °C — no derating curve to chase across the operating band. That flat thermal profile matters when the breaker shares a crowded enclosure with other heat sources. Interrupting capacity hits 330 kA at 240 V, stepping down to 242 kA at 415 V and 440 V, then 187 kA at 500 V. At 690 V it still clears 3.7 kA — enough for most industrial service entrances but worth verifying against the available fault current at the point of installation. Designed specifically for motor protection, it includes phase failure detection as a built-in function — no add-on module required. The 2 auxiliary switches (HP type) provide status feedback for the PLC or HMI without occupying extra panel space.
Panel fit and integration
Dimensions are 105 mm wide by 181 mm tall by 86 mm deep — a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint that drops into most SENTRON panelboards and distribution blocks without re-drilling. The 86 mm depth leaves room behind the gland plate for wiring without forcing a deeper enclosure. Power loss is capped at 4 W maximum, which keeps internal cabinet temperature rise manageable even in sealed enclosures. The -25 °C to +70 °C operating range covers most indoor industrial environments; storage range extends from -40 °C to +80 °C for warehouse cycling.
Coordination and selectivity notes
The 3VA2163-7MN32-0AB0 ships without undervoltage release, ground-fault monitoring, or communication function — it is a straight thermal-magnetic motor protection breaker. The trip indicator is also absent, so fault indication relies on the auxiliary switch feedback or a separate indicating light. Short-time delay settings are available: minimum 4 s, maximum 17 s, allowing selective coordination with downstream branch breakers on motor starting inrush. The base switch variant is 3VA2163-7MN32-0AA0; this order code adds the 2 HP auxiliary switches.
