63 A MCCB with ETU850 — line protection with communication
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2163-8KP36-0AA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 63 A continuous current, designed for line protection in distribution panels. It carries an ETU850 electronic trip unit, which provides adjustable overload and short-circuit protection curves, plus a communication function for integration into higher-level monitoring systems — useful for remote trip indication and load management in industrial switchgear. The interrupting ratings cover the common fault-current levels: 440 kA at 240 V, 330 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 220 kA at 500 V, and 52.5 kA at 690 V. That gives selectivity headroom for most low-voltage distribution scenarios — the 52.5 kA at 690 V is the limiting case for high-voltage industrial grids.
Thermal derating and panel fit
Rated current holds at 63 A across the full ambient range from 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed for elevated panel temperatures. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range extends from -40 °C to 80 °C. Maximum power loss is 3.1 W, so ventilation requirements are minimal.
