160 A MCCB with 187 kA interrupting — the so-what on the ratings
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2216-5HL32-0CL0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 160 A continuous current across the full ambient range from 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed up to that ceiling. At 415 V and 440 V it still delivers 121 kA, and at 500 V it holds 75.6 kA; only at 690 V does it drop to 4.5 kA, so on a 690 V line this is not the main breaker — it's a downstream feeder or branch device. The continuous rating of 160 A and the minimum breaking current of 240 A mean it's sized for a 160 A bus or feeder, not for motor-starting duty where inrush would trip it.
Line protection design with built-in undervoltage release
This MCCB is configured for line protection — meaning it's the primary overcurrent device on a feeder or distribution bus, not a motor-circuit protector. The trip indicator is present, so a local visual flag confirms the breaker tripped on fault vs. manual open.
