What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2216-5HM32-0AA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 160 A continuous current, designed for line protection in distribution panels. It carries a breaking capacity of 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 4.5 kA at 690 V — so it handles high-fault-current scenarios typical of industrial mains and feeder circuits. The 160 A rating holds flat from 40 °C up to 70 °C ambient, meaning no derating is needed across the normal operating temperature range of a switchboard.
Integration notes
Dimensions are 105 mm wide, 181 mm high, and 86 mm deep — a standard MCCB footprint for panel-mounting on a DIN rail or direct screw-fixing. The 3-pole design with line-protection function means it is wired into the incoming feeder, not downstream branch circuits. Ground-fault monitoring uses summation current formation on the L-conductor, so it detects leakage without a separate neutral CT. Power loss is 19.7 W maximum at rated load, which matters for thermal management inside a sealed enclosure.
