SENTRON 3VA2 — 160 A MCCB for Line Protection
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2216-5HM42-0AA0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 160 A continuous current, designed specifically for line protection in distribution panels. Its adjustable thermal-magnetic trip unit covers a range from 240 A to 1 920 A, giving the specifying engineer flexibility to match downstream cable and load requirements without swapping the breaker frame. Interrupting capacity is the headline here: 187 kA at 240 V AC, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 4.5 kA at 690 V. That 187 kA at 240 V means this breaker can sit on the secondary of a large transformer or near a high-fault utility feed without needing a current-limiting fuse upstream — a real advantage for panel coordination studies. Thermal performance is flat across the board: no derating from 40 °C through 70 °C ambient — all 160 A continuous. That simplifies panel design in hot environments or enclosures with limited airflow. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, and the breaker includes ground-fault monitoring via summation current formation on L + N conductors.
Footprint & Panel Fit
Dimensions are 86 mm deep, 140 mm wide, 181 mm high — a compact 4-pole footprint that fits standard Siemens 3VA mounting bases and panel cutouts. No special adapter plate needed for retrofit into existing 3VA2 switchboard layouts. The 140 mm width is the same as the 3-pole variant; the extra pole adds depth only.
