What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA2216-5HR32-0AA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) from the 3VA2 series, rated 160 A continuous across the full ambient range of 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed up to that ceiling. The ETU345 electronic trip unit provides LI (long-time and instantaneous) protection with DTVE (earth-fault) capability, per the protection function designation LI DTVE. Switching capacity class M means this breaker handles high fault currents: 187 kA at 240 V AC, 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, 76 kA at 500 V, and 17 kA at 690 V. The rated insulation voltage is 800 V, and the operating voltage goes to 690 V AC. For a panel-builder, that 187 kA at 240 V is the figure that decides whether this breaker clears a fault without upstream coordination — it's not a number you see on every MCCB.
Mounting and integration
Dimensions are 86 mm deep, 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall — fits standard panel cutouts for a 3-pole MCCB in this class. Electrical connection on both sides uses a nut keeper kit (supplied), so no loose hardware during assembly. The IP40 rating on the front means it's protected against tools and wires >1 mm, but not against water ingress; keep it inside a sealed enclosure for washdown environments. Power loss is 19.7 W maximum at rated current — a figure to factor into enclosure thermal calculations if the panel is densely packed. Mechanical service life is 20 000 switching cycles typical, which is standard for a distribution breaker; not intended for frequent motor starting.
