What this breaker is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA2216-5MP32-0DK0 is a 3-pole IEC molded-case circuit breaker on the 250 A frame, rated for motor protection with an ETU550M electronic trip unit (LSI curves). Its headline breaking capacity is 55 kA at 415 V — class M — which means it can safely interrupt a bolted fault up to that level without cascading upstream, a key spec for panel selectivity studies. The In rating is 160 A, with overload protection (Ir) adjustable from 64 A to 160 A, and short-circuit protection (Isd) from 1.2 to 15 times In, plus instantaneous (Ii) from 3 to 15 times In. That adjustability lets you fine-tune the trip to the motor's locked-rotor and starting inrush without nuisance tripping.
Built-in accessories and deployment context
This breaker ships with an undervoltage release (208–230 V AC 50/60 Hz), one auxiliary switch changeover (H), one trip alarm switch changeover, and one electrical alarm switch (HQ). The busbar connection and the accessory set are pre-configured for the 3VA1 platform, so it drops into a panel with the same mounting footprint. For a motor control center or a dedicated pump/conveyor feeder, the undervoltage release provides automatic dropout on supply loss — no separate control relay needed.
