What the ratings mean for fit
The 3VA2216-7JP32-0AA0: The 160 A rating holds flat from 40 °C all the way up to 70 °C — no derating curve to chase in a hot enclosure. That's unusual; most breakers start dropping current above 40 °C. The ETU550 gives you adjustable long-time pickup (Ir) and short-time delay (tsd) from 0.5 to 0.5 s, so you can shape the trip curve to the load without swapping the breaker. Breaking capacity drops as voltage climbs: 330 kA at 240 V, 242 kA at 415/440 V, 187 kA at 500 V, and 4.5 kA at 690 V. For a 480 V panel, you're looking at roughly 187 kA SCCR — still well above most distribution transformer ratings. The IP40 front protection means it's fine inside a clean panel but not for washdown areas.
Panel fit and wiring
Footprint is 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall, 86 mm deep — fits standard MCCB mounting patterns. The 3-pole block lands on a DIN rail or direct-mount plate. Power loss maxes at 19.7 W, so ventilation around the breaker is fine in a typical enclosure; no forced cooling needed. Communication function is onboard, which matters if you're feeding trip data back to a PLC or BMS.
