What it is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA2216-7MQ32-0AA0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) designed specifically for motor protection, with a continuous current rating of 160 A across the full ambient range from 40 °C to 70 °C — no derating needed up to that ceiling. The 3-pole frame handles interrupting duties from 330 kA at 240 V down to 4.5 kA at 690 V, so it fits into high-fault industrial panels where upstream coordination is critical. It includes phase failure detection and ground-fault monitoring via summation current formation on the L-conductor, and the communication function allows it to talk to a higher-level control system for remote tripping or status feedback. Max power loss is 19.7 W, which matters for enclosure heat budgeting.
Integration and mounting
The breaker measures 105 mm wide, 181 mm high, and 86 mm deep — a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint that fits most industrial panel layouts. It mounts on a DIN rail or directly to a backplate via the screw terminals. The communication function uses the breaker's internal bus; no external module is required for basic status reporting. Ground-fault monitoring is built in, so you don't need a separate GFCI relay for the motor branch circuit.
