Motor protection breaker, frame 250, 55 kA
The Siemens 3VA2220-5MQ32-0AE0 is a 3-pole IEC motor protection circuit breaker on the 3VA2 platform, frame 250, with a 55 kA Icu at 415 V — breaking capacity class M. That rating means it can safely interrupt a bolted fault up to 55 kA without welding contacts or cascading failure upstream, sized for high-fault industrial distribution where the available short-circuit current is substantial.
ETU860M trip unit — LSIG and adjustable protection
Fitted with the ETU860M electronic trip unit offering LSIG protection: long-time (overload, Ir adjustable 80–200 A), short-time (Isd 1.2–15x In), instantaneous (Ii 3–15x In), and ground-fault (Ig 0.2–1x In, tg 0.05–0.8 s). The In rating is 200 A, so the overload pickup window starts at 80 A and goes to the full 200 A — useful for matching motor FLA on a 200 A frame without stepping down to a smaller breaker. The ground-fault element can be switched off, which is typical on radial feeds where you want GF protection on the feeder but not on every motor branch.
Panel integration and auxiliary switches
This unit includes a nut keeper kit and four auxiliary switches (HQ). The nut keeper secures the breaker on the mounting plate during high-vibration environments — common on motor control center (MCC) bucket assemblies. The four auxiliary switches give status feedback (open/closed, trip) to a PLC or DCS without adding external relays. Mounts on a standard DIN rail or directly to a panel backplate via the frame-250 footprint.
