What this MCCB is and what it does
The Siemens 3VA2220-7MS32-0CL0 is a SENTRON molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) designed for starter protection — meaning it's built to handle the inrush and overload profile of motor starters and contactor-fed loads in a control panel. Rated 200 A continuously from 40 °C through 70 °C ambient — no derating needed across that band, which is unusual and simplifies panel thermal budgeting. The adjustable thermal-magnetic trip covers 600 A minimum to 3000 A maximum, so this breaker can be set to protect a wide range of downstream motor or feeder sizes from a single frame.
Breaking capacity — what the numbers mean for your fault level
At 240 V the interrupting rating is 330 kA; at 415 V and 440 V it holds at 242 kA; at 500 V it drops to 187 kA; at 690 V it falls to 5.2 kA. That 5.2 kA at 690 V is the limiting factor — if your panel feeds a 690 V motor circuit with available fault current above that, this breaker is not the right choice for that bus. For standard 480 V or 400 V distribution, the 187–242 kA range covers nearly any industrial installation.
Built-in auxiliary and release package
Comes factory-fitted with two auxiliary switches, one trip alarm switch, one electrical alarm switch, and an undervoltage release (UVR). The UVR means the breaker will trip if control voltage drops — common for emergency-stop chains or undervoltage protection schemes. No communication module or ground-fault monitoring on this variant.
