What it is and what it does
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2225-5HL32-0HH0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker (MCCB) rated for 250 A continuous current at 40 °C, designed for line protection in distribution panels. It carries a short-circuit breaking capacity of 187 kA at 240 V and 121 kA at 415 V, which means it can safely interrupt faults up to those levels without cascading upstream — critical for maintaining selectivity in a multi-level distribution system. The 250 A rating holds flat up to 50 °C, then derates to 241 A at 55 °C and 213 A at 70 °C, so the actual ampacity in a warm enclosure needs a check against the thermal curve.
Auxiliaries and integration
The breaker ships with a shunt trip release (STL) for remote tripping and two auxiliary switches plus one trip alarm switch (HQ configuration). The basic switch assembly is order code 3VA2225-5HL32-0AA0. No undervoltage release, no ground-fault monitoring, and no communication function are fitted on this variant. Panel footprint: 105 mm wide, 181 mm tall, 86 mm deep — standard for the SENTRON 3VA frame size, so it drops into existing DIN-rail or panel-mount cutouts without rework.
Environmental and compliance
Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage from -40 °C to 80 °C. Maximum power loss is 48 W. The trip indicator and voltage trigger are present. Compliance documentation (RoHS, REACH, UL, IEC) is provided by Siemens with the product.
