MCCB for high-fault panel feeds
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2225-5HL32-0JA0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 250 A continuous current, built around the ETU320 electronic trip unit with a shunt trip release for remote opening. Its 187 kA interrupting rating at 240 V makes it a strong candidate for main or feeder protection in high-fault-capacity panels where the available short-circuit current exceeds what a standard MCCB can handle. At 415 V and 440 V the breaking capacity holds at 121 kA, dropping to 79 kA at 500 V and 5.1 kA at 690 V — so the voltage class of the distribution system governs which fault level this breaker can clear. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V.
Thermal derating and panel integration
The breaker carries its full 250 A rating up to 50 °C ambient; above that it derates linearly to 213 A at 70 °C, which is the maximum operating temperature. Dimensions are 105 mm wide, 181 mm high, and 86 mm deep — a standard 3-pole MCCB footprint that fits SENTRON mounting plates and common DIN-rail adapters. Maximum power loss is 48 W at rated current; factor that into enclosure ventilation if the panel is sealed or densely packed. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C, storage range -40 °C to 80 °C.
Trip unit and release configuration
The ETU320 electronic trip unit provides adjustable overload and short-circuit protection with a curve suited for line protection (cable/feeder duty), not motor or generator protection. The integrated shunt trip (STL) allows remote tripping via a control signal — useful for emergency-stop circuits or supervisory system override. No undervoltage release, no auxiliary contacts, no ground-fault monitoring, and no communication module are fitted on this variant. Mechanical endurance is 20,000 operations.
