The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2225-5HL42-0BH0 is a 4-pole molded case circuit breaker rated 250 A continuous at 40 °C, designed for line protection in distribution panels. It carries an undervoltage release (UVR) as built-in auxiliary release, plus two auxiliary switches and one trip alarm switch (HQ) for status feedback to a PLC or annunciator panel.
Short-circuit ratings that define the coordination study
The interrupting capacity varies sharply with system voltage: 187 kA at 240 V, 121 kA at 415 V or 440 V, 75.6 kA at 500 V, and 4.5 kA at 690 V. That 690 V figure is the one that catches people — if your transformer secondary is 690 V line-to-line, this breaker still clears a fault, but the available fault current at that voltage must stay under 4.5 kA. On a 480 V panel with a typical 65 kA SCCR requirement, the 75.6 kA rating at 500 V gives comfortable headroom.
Thermal derating and panel integration
The breaker holds 250 A continuously from 40 °C through 50 °C. Above that it derates: 241 A at 55 °C, 232 A at 60 °C, 222 A at 65 °C, 213 A at 70 °C. If this breaker lives in a non-air-conditioned enclosure near a furnace line or transformer, size the load at the 55 °C or 60 °C figure, not the 40 °C nameplate. Mounting dimensions are 181 mm tall, 140 mm wide, 86 mm deep — fits standard SENTRON 4-pole cutouts in a distribution panel.
