MCCB for high-fault panels
The Siemens SENTRON 3VA2225-5HN32-0KC0 is a 3-pole molded case circuit breaker rated for 250 A continuous current, with a maximum power loss of 48 W. It carries an interrupting capacity of 187 kA at 240 V, dropping to 121 kA at 415 V and 440 V, then 79 kA at 500 V, and 5.1 kA at 690 V — so it handles high available fault current at typical distribution voltages without needing an upstream current-limiting fuse. Rated insulation voltage is 800 V, and the breaker is configured for line protection with an ETU350 electronic trip unit. It includes a shunt trip (STL) auxiliary release and two auxiliary switches (HQ version). No undervoltage release, no ground-fault monitoring, no communication function, and no phase-failure detection — this is a straightforward thermal-magnetic-plus-electronic trip breaker for main feeder or large branch protection.
Thermal derating and endurance
The breaker holds its full 250 A rating from 40 °C up to 50 °C ambient. Above that it derates: 241 A at 55 °C, 232 A at 60 °C, 222 A at 65 °C, and 213 A at 70 °C. Mechanical endurance is 20 000 operations — that's the latching endurance, not the electrical endurance under load. For a main breaker seeing a few cycles per day, that's a decade-plus of service. Operating temperature range is -25 °C to 70 °C; storage range is -40 °C to 80 °C. No trip indicator on the front, so you'll need the auxiliary switch contacts to signal status back to a PLC or annunciator panel.
Panel fit and integration
Dimensions are 105 mm wide, 181 mm high, and 86 mm deep — fits a standard Siemens 3VA mounting footprint. The basic switch assembly carries order code 3VA2225-5HN32-0AA0; the integrated auxiliary trip is 3VA9688-0BL33. No communication module, so it's a standalone breaker for hardwired control circuits.
